10. Accounts

  • 10.1 In order to procure Services on this Website and to use certain other parts of the System, you are required to create an Account which will contain certain personal details and Payment Information which may vary based upon your use of the Website, as I may not require Payment Information until you wish to make a purchase. By continuing to use this Website you represent and warrant that:
  • 10.1.1 all information you submit is accurate and truthful;
  • 10.1.2 you have permission to submit Payment Information where permission may be required; and
  • 10.1.3 you will keep this information accurate and up-to-date. Your creation of an Account is further affirmation of your representation and warranty.
  • 10.2 It is recommended that you do not share your Account details, particularly your username and password. I accept no liability for any losses or damages incurred as a result of your Account details being shared by you. If you use a shared computer, it is recommended that you do not save your Account details in your internet browser.
  • 10.3 If you have reason to believe that your Account details have been obtained by another person without consent, you should contact me immediately to suspend your Account and cancel any unauthorised orders or payments that may be pending. Please be aware that orders or payments can only be cancelled up until provision of Services has commenced. In the event that an unauthorised provision commences prior to your notifying me of the unauthorised nature of the order or payment, then you shall be charged for the period from the commencement of provision until the date you notified me.
  • 10.4 When choosing your username you are required to adhere to the terms set out above in Clause 9. Any failure to do so could result in the suspension and/or deletion of your Account.

11. Termination and Cancellation of Accounts

  • 11.1 Either you or I may terminate your Account. If I terminate your Account, you will be notified by email and an explanation for the termination will be provided. Notwithstanding the foregoing, I reserve the right to terminate without giving reasons.
  • 11.2 If I terminate your Account, any current or pending orders or payments on your Account will be cancelled and provision of Services will not commence.

12. Services, Pricing and Availability

  • 12.1 While every effort has been made to ensure that all general descriptions of Services available from me correspond to the actual Services that will be provided to you, I am not responsible for any variations from these descriptions as the exact nature of the Services may vary depending on your individual requirements and circumstances. This does not exclude my liability for mistakes due to negligence on my part and refers only to variations of the correct Services, not different Services altogether. Please refer to sub-Clause 13.7 for incorrect Services.
  • 12.2 Where appropriate, you may be required to select the required plan of Services.
  • 12.3 I neither represent nor warrant that such Services will be available at all times and cannot necessarily confirm availability until confirming your order.
  • 12.4 All pricing information on the Website is correct at the time of going online. I reserve the right to change prices and alter or remove any special offers from time to time and as necessary.
  • 12.5 In the event that prices are changed during the period between an order being placed for Services and my processing that order and taking payment, then the price that was valid at the time of the order shall be used.
  • 12.6 All prices on the Website are stated exclusive of taxes. As a business based in Hong Kong (SAR), I am not registered for VAT or GST and do not charge VAT or GST. Where your purchase is subject to any tax, duty or charge in your own country or region, you are responsible for that amount.

13. Orders and Provision of Services

  • 13.1 No part of this Website constitutes a contractual offer capable of acceptance. Your order constitutes a contractual offer that I may, at my sole discretion, accept. My acceptance is indicated by my sending to you an order confirmation email. Only once I have sent you an order confirmation email will there be a binding contract between you and me.
  • 13.2 Order confirmations under sub-Clause 13.1 will be sent to you before the Services begin and shall contain the following information:
  • 13.2.1 Confirmation of the Services ordered including full details of the main characteristics of those Services;
  • 13.2.2 Fully itemised pricing for the Services ordered including, where appropriate, taxes and other additional charges;
  • 13.2.3 Relevant times and dates for the provision of the Services, including the payment schedule where a payment plan or Subscription applies;
  • 13.2.4 User credentials and relevant information for accessing those Services.
  • 13.3 If I, for any reason, do not accept your order, no payment shall be taken under normal circumstances. In any event, any sums paid by you in relation to that order will be refunded within 14 calendar days.
  • 13.4 Payment for the Services is taken through your chosen payment method as follows: for a one-off purchase, in full at the time of purchase; for a purchase made under a payment plan, in the instalments set out in your order confirmation; and for a Subscription, in advance for each billing period until you cancel. The specific schedule for your order is set out in your order confirmation.
  • 13.5 I aim to fulfill your order within 2 to 3 working days or, if not, within a reasonable period following your order, unless there are exceptional circumstances. If I cannot fulfill your order within a reasonable period, I will inform you at the time you place the order by a note on the relevant web page or by contacting you directly after you place your order. Time is not of the essence of the contract, which means I will aim to fulfill your order within any agreed timescales but this is not an essential term of the contract and I will not be liable to you if I do not do so. Where access to digital Content is to begin within any statutory cancellation period described in Clause 14, you will be asked to expressly request this and to acknowledge the effect on your statutory cancellation rights as set out in that Clause.
  • 13.6 I shall use all reasonable endeavors to provide the Services with reasonable skill and care, commensurate with best trade practice.
  • 13.7 In the event that Services are provided that are not in conformity with your order and thus incorrect, you should contact me immediately to inform me of the mistake. I will ensure that any necessary corrections are made within five (5) working days. Additional terms and conditions may apply to the provision of certain Services. You will be asked to read and confirm your acceptance of any such terms and conditions when completing your order.
  • 13.8 I provide technical support via email. I make every effort possible to respond to support requests within 2 business days but I do not guarantee a particular response time.

14. Cancellation, Refunds and the Satisfaction Guarantee

I want you to be satisfied with what you buy from staging.rootsoflife.org. If you need to talk to me about an order, contact me by email at grow@staging.rootsoflife.org. This Clause sets out when a refund is and is not available. It is governed by the law of Hong Kong (SAR) as set out in Clause 25, and applies except where the mandatory consumer law of your own country of residence gives you rights that cannot be excluded by contract.

  • 14.1 General position. staging.rootsoflife.org sells digital learning Content, Subscriptions and access to live and recorded teaching. Once your order is confirmed and you are given access to the Content or platform, your purchase is final and non-refundable, except as expressly set out in this Clause 14 or where a refund is required by a law that applies to you and cannot be excluded.
  • 14.2 Statutory cooling-off period. If you buy as a consumer and the law of your country grants a statutory cancellation or “cooling-off” period (for example, consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom, and consumers elsewhere where such a right applies), that period is 14 calendar days and begins on the day your order is confirmed. To cancel within this period, email me at grow@staging.rootsoflife.org before it ends.
  • 14.2.1 If the Services are entirely performed within the 14 calendar day cooling off period, you will lose your right to cancel after the Services are complete; and
  • 14.2.2 If you cancel the Services after provision has begun but is not yet complete, you will still be required to pay for the Services supplied up until the point at which you inform me of your wish to cancel. The sum due will be deducted from any refund due to you or, if no refund is due, I will invoice you for the relevant sum.
  • 14.3 Immediate access to digital Content and waiver of the cooling-off right. My Courses, Subscriptions and library Content are digital and are made available to you immediately or shortly after purchase. Where you ask for and are given access to the Content within the cooling-off period, you expressly consent to supply beginning at once and you acknowledge that, under the digital-content rules that apply to such sales, you lose the statutory right to cancel once supply has begun and the Content has been made available to you. You confirm this consent and acknowledgement at checkout before access is granted.
  • 14.4 Satisfaction guarantee on self-paced online Courses. Separately from any statutory right, I offer a discretionary satisfaction guarantee on self-paced online Courses, whether you buy a single Course or a course package. If you complete the first five (5) lessons and, within thirty (30) days of your enrollment, you tell me by email at grow@staging.rootsoflife.org that the teaching has not been right for you, I will refund that purchase in full. This is the main route to a refund on a self-paced Course. The thirty (30) day period runs from the date you enrol and is a single window for each purchase. Where the purchase is a package containing more than one Course, that window is not reset, extended or duplicated by the number of Courses in the package or by the order in which you take them, and the package is refunded only as a whole, not in part. A Course within a package that you have chosen not to begin does not create a separate or later refund window of its own. The guarantee does not apply where the first five lessons have not been completed, where more than thirty (30) days have passed since enrollment, or where the Course or package has already been completed in full.
  • 14.5 Self-paced online Courses outside the guarantee. Outside the satisfaction guarantee in sub-Clause 14.4 and any statutory right under sub-Clauses 14.2 and 14.3, self-paced online Courses are non-refundable. A Course that has been completed in full is non-refundable in all circumstances. A Course that has been partly taken is non-refundable except where a refund is required by a law that applies to you and cannot be excluded. Course access does not expire and remains available in your Account, so a Course you are not yet ready to take is not lost.
  • 14.6 Subscriptions and library access. Where you buy a Subscription, you are billed in advance for each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time by emailing grow@staging.rootsoflife.org, or through your Account where that option is available, which stops all future billing. Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Payments already taken for the current or past periods are not refunded.
  • 14.7 Live but virtual Courses, mentorship and trainings. Live sessions delivered over distance by video (for example through Zoom or Skype) are recorded, and the recording is provided to all participants. Because the teaching is delivered and the recording supplied, these are non-refundable, including where you are unable to attend the live session.
  • 14.8 Retreats, pilgrimages and in-person Live Experiences. Retreats, pilgrimages and other in-person Live Experiences are sold on their own cancellation and refund terms, which are set out clearly on the landing page for that specific experience. Those terms apply strictly and prevail over the rest of this Clause 14 for that experience. Deposits and payment-plan instalments for a Live Experience are non-refundable unless the landing-page terms for that experience expressly state otherwise.
  • 14.9 How refunds are paid. Where a refund is due under this Clause 14, I will issue it to your original payment method within 14 calendar days of confirming that the refund is due.
  • 14.10 Acknowledgement. By enrolling in, purchasing or subscribing to anything on staging.rootsoflife.org, you confirm that you have read and agree to this Clause 14 in full.

  • 16.3 In certain circumstances, and with your consent, I may pass your personal information on to third parties who help me provide the Services (for example, payment processors). These parties are bound to handle your personal information in accordance with applicable data protection law.
  • 16.4 I will not pass on your personal information to any other third parties without first obtaining your express permission, except where I am required to do so by law.

  • 19.1 The Website is provided “as is” and on an “as available” basis. I use industry best practices to provide a high uptime, including a fault-tolerant architecture hosted on cloud servers. I give no warranty that the Website or Facilities will be free of defects and / or faults and I do not provide any kind of refund for outages. I provide no warranties (express or implied) of fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of information, compatibility or satisfactory quality.
  • 19.2 I accept no liability for any disruption or non-availability of the Website resulting from external causes including, but not limited to, ISP equipment failure, host equipment failure, communications network failure, power failure, natural events, acts of war or legal restrictions and censorship.

  • 20.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, I accept no liability for any direct or indirect loss or damage, foreseeable or otherwise, including any indirect, consequential, special or exemplary damages arising from the use of the Website or any information contained therein. You should be aware that you use the Website and its Content at your own risk.
  • 20.2 Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or restricts my liability for death or personal injury resulting from any negligence or fraud on my part.

  • 20.4 In the event that any of these terms are found to be unlawful, invalid or otherwise unenforceable, that term is to be deemed severed from these Terms and Conditions and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining Terms and Conditions. 23. Third Party Rights

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall confer any rights upon any third party. The agreement created by these Terms and Conditions is between you and me.

24. Communications

  • 24.1 All notices and communications shall be given to me by email to grow@staging.rootsoflife.org. Such notice will be deemed received the day of sending if the email is received in full on a business day, and on the next business day if the email is sent on a weekend or public holiday.
  • 24.2 I may from time to time, if you opt to receive it, send you information about my products and / or services. If you do not wish to receive such information, please click on the ‘Unsubscribe’ link in any email which you receive from me.

These Terms and Conditions and the relationship between you and me shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong (SAR), and you and I agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong (SAR). Where you purchase as a consumer, nothing in these Terms and Conditions deprives you of the protection of any mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence that cannot be excluded by agreement; those mandatory protections apply in addition to the terms set out here, and the law of Hong Kong (SAR) governs in all other respects.

26. Special Terms for the Deep Roots of Reiki Pilgrimage to Japan

The following terms apply specifically to participation in the Deep Roots of Reiki Pilgrimage (“the Pilgrimage”) organized by Bruce Taylor, Director, staging.rootsoflife.org (“the Organizer”). By enrolling in, paying for, or participating in the Pilgrimage, you (“the Participant”) acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all terms in this Clause 26 in addition to all other Terms and Conditions of this Website.

26.1 Mandatory Travel and Medical Insurance

26.1.1 The Participant is required to obtain and maintain comprehensive travel and medical insurance for the entire duration of the Pilgrimage, including coverage for: emergency medical treatment and hospitalization in Japan; medical evacuation and repatriation; trip cancellation and interruption; personal liability; and loss or damage to personal belongings.

26.1.2 Proof of adequate insurance coverage must be provided to the Organizer no later than 30 days prior to the Pilgrimage departure date. Failure to provide proof of insurance may result in the Participant being refused participation, with no refund of any payments made.

26.1.3 The Organizer accepts no liability whatsoever for any costs, losses, or damages arising from the Participant’s failure to obtain adequate insurance coverage. Any medical, evacuation, repatriation, or other emergency costs incurred during the Pilgrimage are the sole responsibility of the Participant.

26.2 Health Disclosure and Fitness to Participate

26.2.1 The Participant must disclose in writing to the Organizer, prior to enrollment, any physical or mental health conditions, disabilities, allergies, dietary requirements, or medications that may affect their ability to participate safely in the Pilgrimage activities.

26.2.2 The Pilgrimage includes physical activities such as hiking at Mt. Kurama, walking on uneven terrain, climbing temple stairs, and extended periods of standing and walking. The Participant represents and warrants that they are physically and mentally fit to participate in these activities.

26.2.3 The Organizer reserves the absolute right to refuse participation or to require a Participant to withdraw from any activity or the entire Pilgrimage if, in the Organizer’s sole judgment, the Participant’s health condition poses a risk to themselves or others. No refund will be provided in such circumstances.

26.2.4 Failure to disclose any relevant health information constitutes a material breach of these Terms and releases the Organizer from all liability arising from such non-disclosure.

26.3 Assumption of Risk

26.3.1 The Participant acknowledges that participation in the Pilgrimage involves inherent risks, including but not limited to:

(a) Physical risks: hiking and walking on uneven, steep, or slippery terrain at Mt. Kurama and other sacred sites; exposure to varying weather conditions; physical exertion; falls, strains, sprains, or other injuries;

(b) Environmental risks: earthquakes, typhoons, flooding, and other natural disasters common to Japan; extreme temperatures; exposure to wildlife and insects;

(c) Travel risks: vehicular accidents; delays or cancellations of transportation; loss or theft of personal belongings; illness or disease;

(d) Cultural and site-specific risks: temple protocols and restrictions; language barriers; unfamiliar food and dietary practices; spiritual or energetic experiences that may cause emotional or psychological effects;

(e) Third-party risks: actions or omissions of other participants, tour guides, temple staff, accommodation providers, transportation providers, and other third parties.

26.3.2 The Participant voluntarily assumes all risks, known and unknown, associated with participation in the Pilgrimage, including the risk of serious injury, illness, or death.

26.3.3 The Participant acknowledges that the Organizer is not a medical provider and that any suggestions, guidance, or Reiki practices offered during the Pilgrimage are not substitutes for professional medical care. The Participant takes full responsibility for their own health decisions and agrees to consult their own medical professionals as needed.

26.4 Release of Liability and Waiver

26.4.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Participant hereby releases, discharges, and holds harmless Bruce Taylor, staging.rootsoflife.org, and any affiliated teachers, guides, employees, agents, volunteers, and representatives (“the Released Parties”) from any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or in connection with participation in the Pilgrimage.

26.4.2 This release includes, but is not limited to, claims arising from: personal injury, illness, or death; property damage, loss, or theft; emotional or psychological distress; negligence (but not gross negligence or willful misconduct) of the Released Parties; acts or omissions of third parties; force majeure events; and any other cause whatsoever.

26.4.3 The Participant agrees not to make any claim against, sue, or attach the property of any of the Released Parties for any matter arising from the Pilgrimage.

26.4.4 This release and waiver is binding upon the Participant and their heirs, executors, administrators, successors, assigns, and legal representatives.

26.5 Indemnification

26.5.1 The Participant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from or related to:

(a) The Participant’s breach of any term in these Terms and Conditions;

(b) The Participant’s negligent, reckless, or intentional acts or omissions;

(c) Any injury, damage, or loss caused by the Participant to any other person or property;

(d) Any misrepresentation or non-disclosure by the Participant, including regarding health conditions.

26.6 Emergency Medical Authorization

26.6.1 In the event that the Participant is incapacitated, unconscious, or otherwise unable to make medical decisions for themselves during the Pilgrimage, the Participant hereby authorizes the Organizer to:

(a) Consent to emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, surgery, or other medical procedures on the Participant’s behalf;

(b) Arrange for medical evacuation or repatriation;

(c) Contact the Participant’s designated emergency contact;

(d) Make any other decisions reasonably necessary to protect the Participant’s health and safety.

26.6.2 The Participant agrees that all costs associated with emergency medical treatment, evacuation, or repatriation are the sole responsibility of the Participant and/or their insurance provider.

26.6.3 The Participant releases the Organizer from any liability arising from decisions made in good faith under this authorization.

26.7 Itinerary Changes and Cancellation

26.7.1 The Organizer reserves the absolute right to modify, alter, or cancel any aspect of the Pilgrimage itinerary at any time, including but not limited to: dates and times of activities; locations visited; accommodation arrangements; transportation arrangements; and participating teachers or guides.

26.7.2 The Participant acknowledges that access to temples, sacred sites, and other locations in Japan is subject to change without notice due to factors beyond the Organizer’s control, including but not limited to: temple closures for religious ceremonies or maintenance; weather conditions; natural disasters; government restrictions; and decisions by temple authorities.

26.7.3 The Organizer will make reasonable efforts to provide equivalent alternative experiences where scheduled activities are not possible, but no refund or compensation will be provided for any itinerary changes.

26.7.4 The Organizer accepts no liability for any costs, losses, or disappointment arising from itinerary changes.

26.8 Force Majeure

26.8.1 The Organizer shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing obligations under these Terms, or for any loss or damage suffered by the Participant, arising from Force Majeure Events.

26.8.2 “Force Majeure Events” include but are not limited to: natural disasters (earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, flooding); pandemics, epidemics, or disease outbreaks; war, terrorism, civil unrest, or political instability; government actions, travel restrictions, or border closures; airline or transportation failures, strikes, or cancellations; failure of third-party suppliers or service providers; and any other events beyond the reasonable control of the Organizer.

26.8.3 If the Pilgrimage is cancelled in whole or in part due to a Force Majeure Event:

(a) The Organizer may, at its sole discretion, offer the Participant a credit toward a future pilgrimage or alternative dates;

26.14 Entire Agreement and Acknowledgment

26.14.1 This Clause 26, together with all other Terms and Conditions of this Website and any Pilgrimage-specific terms displayed on the relevant landing page, constitutes the entire agreement between the Participant and the Organizer regarding the Pilgrimage.

26.14.3 Enrollment in the Pilgrimage constitutes acceptance of all terms in this Clause 26. No signature is required for these terms to be binding.

27. Special Terms for Sacred Roots Pilgrimages (Plant Medicine Retreats)

The following terms apply specifically to participation in any Sacred Roots Pilgrimage or any pilgrimage, retreat, or experience organized by Bruce Taylor, staging.rootsoflife.org, and/or Carmen Santillan that involves the ceremonial use of plant medicines, entheogens, or psychoactive substances (“the Plant Medicine Retreat”), regardless of the name under which such retreat is marketed or offered. By enrolling in, paying for, or participating in any Plant Medicine Retreat, you (“the Participant”) acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all terms in this Clause 27 in addition to all other Terms and Conditions of this Website.

27.1 Acknowledgment of Plant Medicine Use and Psychoactive Substances

27.1.1 The Participant acknowledges and fully understands that the Plant Medicine Retreat involves the ceremonial use of traditional plant medicines and psychoactive substances, which may include but are not limited to: Ayahuasca (a brew containing DMT and MAO inhibitors); Wachuma (San Pedro cactus, containing mescaline); Rapeh (a tobacco-based snuff containing Nicotiana rustica and other plant materials); Sacred Tobacco (Mapacho/Nicotiana rustica); and any other traditional plant medicines, entheogens, or psychoactive substances that may be introduced during the retreat at the discretion of the ceremony leaders.

27.1.2 The Participant acknowledges that these substances are powerful psychoactive agents that produce profound alterations in consciousness, perception, cognition, mood, and physical sensation. The Participant understands that these effects can be intense, unpredictable, and may include but are not limited to: vivid visual and auditory hallucinations; intense emotional experiences including fear, grief, euphoria, or confusion; altered perception of time, space, and self; nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea; changes in heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature; temporary loss of motor control or coordination; psychological distress, panic, or anxiety; re-experiencing of traumatic memories; and altered states of consciousness that may persist for hours or days following ceremony.

27.1.3 The Participant acknowledges that they are choosing to participate in these ceremonies of their own free will, sound mind, and clear judgment. No person has coerced, pressured, or unduly influenced the Participant to consume any substance during the retreat. The Participant understands that participation in any ceremony involving the consumption of plant medicines is entirely voluntary, and the Participant may decline to participate in any ceremony at any time without explanation.

27.1.4 The Participant acknowledges that the legal status of certain plant medicines varies by jurisdiction, and it is the sole responsibility of the Participant to understand and accept any legal implications of their participation. The Organizer makes no representations regarding the legal status of any substances used in ceremony in the Participant’s home jurisdiction or any other jurisdiction.

27.2 Health Disclosure, Medical Screening, and Fitness to Participate

27.2.1 The Participant must disclose in writing to the Organizer, prior to enrollment and no later than 30 days before the retreat departure date, any and all of the following: all physical health conditions, chronic illnesses, or disabilities; all mental health conditions, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, PTSD, personality disorders, or any history of psychiatric hospitalization; all medications currently being taken or taken within the 12 months preceding the retreat, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, supplements, and herbal remedies; any history of adverse reactions to psychoactive substances, plant medicines, or entheogens; any history of substance abuse, addiction, or dependency; any history of seizures, epilepsy, or neurological conditions; any cardiovascular conditions including heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmia, or history of stroke; any current or suspected pregnancy; and any dietary restrictions, allergies, or food sensitivities.

27.2.2 The Participant acknowledges that certain medications and substances are strictly contraindicated with Ayahuasca and other MAO inhibitors used in ceremony. These include but are not limited to: SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) including fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, citalopram, escitalopram, and fluvoxamine; SNRIs (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) including venlafaxine, duloxetine, and desvenlafaxine; MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors); tricyclic antidepressants; lithium; tramadol; dextromethorphan; St. John’s Wort; 5-HTP; tryptophan supplements; amphetamines and stimulant medications; and any other serotonergic medications or substances. The Participant understands that combining these substances with Ayahuasca can result in serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition, and other severe medical emergencies.

27.2.3 The Participant represents and warrants that they have discontinued any contraindicated medications for a period recommended by their prescribing physician and/or a minimum of six (6) weeks prior to the retreat (or longer as medically appropriate for their specific medication), and that they have done so under proper medical supervision. The Participant takes full responsibility for any consequences of discontinuing or failing to discontinue medications.

27.2.4 The Organizer, Carmen Santillan, and all ceremony leaders and facilitators reserve the absolute right to refuse participation in any ceremony or the entire retreat to any Participant if, in their sole judgment, the Participant’s physical or mental health condition, medication use, or behavior poses a risk to themselves or others. No refund will be provided in such circumstances.

27.2.5 Failure to disclose any relevant health information, medication use, or substance use constitutes a material breach of these Terms, releases the Organizer and all Released Parties from all liability arising from such non-disclosure, and may result in immediate removal from the retreat without refund.

27.2.6 The Participant acknowledges that the Organizer, ceremony leaders, and all retreat staff are not licensed medical professionals, psychiatrists, psychologists, or therapists. Nothing offered during the retreat constitutes medical advice, psychiatric treatment, psychotherapy, or any form of regulated healthcare. The Participant takes full responsibility for their own health decisions and agrees to consult their own qualified medical professionals prior to participation.

27.3 Assumption of Risk

27.3.1 The Participant acknowledges that participation in the Plant Medicine Retreat involves significant and inherent risks, including but not limited to:

(a) Risks from plant medicine ceremonies: adverse physical reactions to plant medicines including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, changes in blood pressure and heart rate, fainting, seizures, allergic reactions, and in rare cases, life-threatening medical emergencies; adverse psychological reactions including acute anxiety, panic attacks, paranoia, psychotic episodes, depersonalization, derealization, dissociation, re-traumatization, and prolonged psychological distress; unpredictable interactions between plant medicines and undisclosed medications, supplements, foods, or pre-existing conditions; and any other physical, psychological, emotional, or spiritual effects that may arise during or after ceremony;

(b) Post-ceremony risks: persistent changes in perception, mood, or cognition following ceremony; difficulty integrating experiences; emergence of previously suppressed psychological material; temporary or prolonged psychological vulnerability; and impaired judgment or functioning in the hours and days following ceremony;

(c) Environmental and physical risks: the retreat center is located in a remote area of Peru where access to emergency medical services may be limited or significantly delayed; hiking, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to altitude, weather, wildlife, and insects; risks associated with travel in Peru including transportation accidents, illness, altitude sickness, and infectious disease;

(d) Third-party risks: actions or omissions of other participants, shamans, facilitators, ceremony leaders, retreat center staff, accommodation providers, transportation providers, and other third parties over whom the Organizer has no direct control;

(e) Risk of serious injury, illness, psychological harm, or death.

27.3.2 The Participant voluntarily assumes all risks, known and unknown, foreseeable and unforeseeable, associated with participation in the Plant Medicine Retreat, including the risk of serious physical injury, psychological harm, illness, or death.

27.3.3 The Participant acknowledges that they have had the opportunity to research and educate themselves about the plant medicines used in the retreat, their effects, risks, and contraindications, and that they are making an informed and voluntary decision to participate.

27.4 Complete Release of Liability and Waiver

27.4.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Participant hereby fully, unconditionally, and irrevocably releases, discharges, and holds harmless Bruce Taylor, staging.rootsoflife.org, Carmen Santillan, and any and all affiliated ceremony leaders, shamans, healers, facilitators, teachers, guides, employees, agents, contractors, volunteers, retreat center owners and operators, accommodation providers, transportation providers, and any other persons or entities associated with the planning, organization, promotion, or execution of the Plant Medicine Retreat (“the Released Parties”) from any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, suits, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including legal fees and court costs) of any kind or nature whatsoever, whether known or unknown, suspected or unsuspected, which the Participant now has or may hereafter have, arising out of or in connection with participation in the Plant Medicine Retreat.

27.4.2 This release includes, without limitation, claims arising from: any physical injury, illness, disease, medical emergency, hospitalization, or death; any psychological, emotional, or spiritual harm, distress, or trauma; any adverse reaction to plant medicines, entheogens, or psychoactive substances consumed during the retreat; any negligence (but not gross negligence or willful misconduct) of the Released Parties; any acts, omissions, recommendations, or advice of ceremony leaders, shamans, facilitators, or other retreat staff; any failure to diagnose, treat, or respond to a medical or psychological emergency; any property damage, loss, or theft; any acts or omissions of third parties including other participants; any deficiency in the retreat facilities, accommodations, food, or transportation; any itinerary changes or cancellations; any force majeure events; and any other cause whatsoever.

27.4.3 The Participant agrees not to make any claim against, sue, or attach the property of any of the Released Parties for any matter arising from the Plant Medicine Retreat, regardless of the cause or circumstances.

27.4.4 This release and waiver is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of Hong Kong (SAR) and shall be interpreted in favor of the Released Parties. If any portion of this release is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remainder shall continue in full force and effect.

27.4.5 This release and waiver is binding upon the Participant and their heirs, executors, administrators, successors, assigns, next of kin, and legal representatives.

27.5 Indemnification

27.5.1 The Participant agrees to fully indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses (including legal fees and court costs) arising from or related to:

27.6 Emergency Medical Authorization

27.6.1 In the event that the Participant is incapacitated, unconscious, or otherwise unable to make medical decisions for themselves during the Plant Medicine Retreat, the Participant hereby authorizes the Organizer, Carmen Santillan, and/or any retreat staff member to:

(a) Consent to emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, surgery, or other medical procedures on the Participant’s behalf;

(b) Disclose the Participant’s health information and details of substances consumed to medical professionals as necessary for treatment;

(c) Arrange for medical evacuation or repatriation;

(d) Contact the Participant’s designated emergency contact;

(e) Make any other decisions reasonably necessary to protect the Participant’s health and safety.

27.6.2 The Participant agrees that all costs associated with emergency medical treatment, evacuation, or repatriation are the sole responsibility of the Participant and/or their insurance provider. The Participant releases the Organizer and all Released Parties from any liability arising from decisions made in good faith under this authorization.

27.7 Mandatory Travel and Medical Insurance

27.7.1 The Participant is required to obtain and maintain comprehensive travel and medical insurance for the entire duration of the Plant Medicine Retreat, including coverage for: emergency medical treatment and hospitalization in Peru; medical evacuation and repatriation; trip cancellation and interruption; personal liability; and loss or damage to personal belongings.

27.7.2 Proof of adequate insurance coverage must be provided to the Organizer no later than 30 days prior to the retreat departure date. Failure to provide proof of insurance may result in the Participant being refused participation, with no refund of any payments made.

27.7.3 The Organizer accepts no liability whatsoever for any costs, losses, or damages arising from the Participant’s failure to obtain adequate insurance coverage or from any insurer’s refusal to pay a claim.

27.8 Ceremony Conduct and Compliance

27.8.1 The Participant agrees to follow all instructions, guidelines, and protocols provided by the Organizer, Carmen Santillan, ceremony leaders, shamans, and retreat staff before, during, and after all ceremonies.

27.8.2 The Participant agrees to adhere to all dietary restrictions and preparation protocols communicated prior to and during the retreat, including the traditional Ayahuasca dieta.

27.8.3 The Participant agrees not to bring, possess, or consume any alcohol, recreational drugs, unauthorized substances, or unauthorized medications during the retreat without the express written consent of the Organizer.

27.8.4 The Participant agrees not to leave the ceremony space during ceremony without the express permission of a ceremony leader or facilitator.

27.8.5 The Organizer, Carmen Santillan, and ceremony leaders reserve the right to remove any Participant from any ceremony or the entire retreat, without refund, if their behavior is disruptive, non-compliant, dangerous, or in violation of these Terms, ceremony protocols, or any applicable laws.

27.9 Confidentiality and Privacy of Participants

27.9.1 The Participant agrees to maintain the confidentiality of all other Participants and to not disclose, share, or publish any personal information, health information, ceremonial experiences, or other private details of any other Participant without their express written consent.

27.9.2 The Participant agrees not to photograph, record, or film any other Participant during ceremony or integration sessions without their express consent.

28. Payment Plans and Stored Card Payments

The following terms apply where you choose to pay for Services using a Payment Plan. By selecting a Payment Plan at checkout and completing your order, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all terms in this Clause 28 in addition to all other Terms and Conditions of this Website.

28.1 Availability of Payment Plans

28.1.1 A Payment Plan is offered at My discretion on selected Services and is shown at checkout where it is available. Where no Payment Plan is shown, the full price is payable at the time of order.

28.1.2 Before completing your order, you are shown the deposit payable today, the amount of each subsequent payment, and the date on which each subsequent payment falls due. Those details form the schedule for your Payment Plan.

28.1.3 A Payment Plan divides the price of the Services into installments for your convenience. It carries no interest, fees, or charges of any kind, and the total payable under a Payment Plan is the same as the price payable in a single payment.

28.2 Storage of Your Card Details

28.2.1 Selecting a Payment Plan requires that the card you use for your deposit is retained by My Payment Processor for the collection of the remaining payments in your schedule. Retention of your card details is a condition of the Payment Plan.

28.2.2 Your card details are collected, encrypted, and held by My Payment Processor in accordance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. I do not receive, hold, or have access to your full card number at any time.

28.2.3 Your card details are retained only for the purpose of collecting the payments in your schedule, and are used for no other purpose.

28.2.4 Once all payments in your schedule are complete, your card details are no longer used by Me. You may ask Me at any time to remove your stored card details, and I will do so once your Payment Plan is complete or has otherwise been settled.

28.3 Automatic Collection of Scheduled Payments

28.3.1 Each payment in your schedule is collected automatically from your stored card on the date shown at checkout. You authorize Me to instruct My Payment Processor to take those payments on those dates.

28.3.2 Each payment is taken without further action on your part, and I am under no obligation to give you separate notice before an individual scheduled payment is taken. The schedule shown to you at checkout, together with your order confirmation, constitutes notice of the amounts and dates.

28.3.3 You will receive a receipt by email for each payment successfully collected.

28.3.4 You are responsible for ensuring that the card held for your Payment Plan remains valid and that sufficient funds are available on each scheduled date.

28.4 Where a Scheduled Payment is Not Collected

28.4.1 Where a scheduled payment is declined, I will make further attempts to collect it over the following days. Where those attempts are unsuccessful, I will contact you by email at the address on your order with a link by which the payment may be completed.

28.4.2 Your card issuer may occasionally ask you to confirm a scheduled payment before it is taken. Where that happens, I will email you a link by which you can provide that confirmation.

28.4.3 Where a payment remains outstanding, Clause 28.6 applies.

28.5 Changing Your Card and Settling Early

28.5.1 You may change the card held for your Payment Plan at any time by contacting Me at grow@staging.rootsoflife.org. The card you provide will then be used for the remaining payments in your schedule.

28.5.2 You may settle the outstanding balance of a Payment Plan in a single payment at any time by contacting Me at the address above. The amount payable is the sum of the remaining installments in your schedule.

28.6 Access to Services While a Payment Plan is Running

28.6.1 Access to the Services is provided to you on the basis that the full price will be paid in accordance with your schedule.

28.6.2 Where a scheduled payment remains outstanding, I reserve the right to suspend your access to the Services, in whole or in part, until the outstanding amount is settled. I will give you notice by email before doing so.

28.6.3 Where an amount remains outstanding for a period of 30 days or more following suspension under sub-Clause 28.6.2, I reserve the right to adjust your enrollment so that it corresponds to the amount you have paid, or to terminate the provision of the Services in accordance with Clause 11. Sums already paid are applied against the Services provided up to that point and are dealt with in accordance with Clause 14.

28.6.4 Suspension or adjustment under this sub-Clause does not release you from your obligation to pay amounts already due for Services already provided.

28.7 Cancellation and Refunds Under a Payment Plan

28.7.1 Clause 14 applies to Services purchased under a Payment Plan in the same way as it applies to Services paid for in a single payment.

28.7.2 Where you exercise a right of cancellation under Clause 14, I will cancel the remaining payments in your schedule and no further amounts will be collected from your card. Sums already paid are dealt with in accordance with Clause 14.

28.7.3 Where a Payment Plan applies to a Pilgrimage or retreat governed by Clause 26 or Clause 27, the cancellation and refund terms in those Clauses take precedence over this sub-Clause.

28.8 Queries About a Payment

28.8.1 If you have a question about any payment taken under your Payment Plan, please contact Me at grow@staging.rootsoflife.org and I will respond as soon as I am able. I ask that you raise any query with Me directly before raising it with your card issuer, so that I have the opportunity to resolve it.

28.9 Acceptance

28.9.1 The schedule for your Payment Plan is displayed to you at checkout, together with a statement that your card is retained and charged automatically on the dates shown. Confirming your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions at checkout constitutes your agreement to that schedule and to the terms of this Clause 28.

28.9.2 A record of the schedule shown to you, and of the date and time at which you accepted these Terms and Conditions, is retained with your order.
